Class sessions begin in September, January and late March or early April. Class information will be posted four to five weeks before each session.

Vancouver East Classes - Spring 2015

DR100 Beginning Drama (ages 8 - 18)

Teacher: Cheri Hogan

Become a character from head to toe. Explore the building blocks of acting through creative movement, story enactment, theater games, imagination journeys and more! You’ll be able to use your whole body, voice & facial expressions to portray everything from a swashbuckling pirate to an Oompa Loompa.

DA100 Beginning Dance (ages 8 - 18)

1, 2, 3, 4 – Let’s get up and rock the floor! 5, 6, 7, 8 – Point your toes and stand up straight! Step up to all the basic techniques that will prepare you to take on any form of dance. Whether you want to learn Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Modern, Tap, Hip Hop, or Ballroom, this class will give you the foundation you’ll need to succeed.

V100 Beginning Voice (ages 8 - 18)

Teacher: Annalisa Quarto

Whether you sing in your church choir, along with Rock Band, or just in the shower, singing can be fun! Learn how to put those pipes to use with good technique and style. In this interactive class, students will learn the fundamental concepts and training of the voice, learn proper posture and breathing techniques, phrasing and how to stay on pitch. Students will develop the confidence they need to perform solos in showcase through an encouraging learning environment.

DR202 Intermediate Drama: Monologues and Scenes (ages 9 - 14)*

Teacher: Chris Murphy

*Prerequisite: DR100

It’s time to take the spotlight in your acting. Focus on portraying a believable, interesting character through a monologue or scene. Learn to select and prepare pieces that are just right for your skills and talents. You’ll get the chance to perfect and polish both a dramatic & comedic monologue and/or scene, as well as focusing on dramatic audition fundamentals.

MT204 Intermediate Musical Theater: Rodgers and Hammerstein (ages 11 - 18)*

Teacher: Jeanna Reed

*Prerequisite: MT100

Broadway affords such a variety of styles throughout the decades. From Classic Broadway (Rodgers & Hammerstein) to Sondheim, from Rock Opera (Jesus Christ Superstar) to Disney, from Period Pieces (Grease) to Contemporary (Jason Robert Brown); the style of Broadway and off-Broadway takes various forms.

The focus of this class will be Rodgers and Hammerstein whose works include “Step Sisters’ Lament,” and “The Prince is Giving a Ball,” from Cinderella;
“Oklahoma” and “The Farmer and the Cowman” from Oklahoma; “Getting to Know You,” from The King and I; “Edelweiss” & “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music and many more.  This class involves singing, dancing, and acting, using parts of scenes & songs from their shows.
